The
House that fell from the Sky: Delaney, Patrick
When twenty-nine-year-old Scarlett Vantassel comes to
the conclusion that her life doesn't resemble any of the
things she actually wanted for herself, she drops out of
school and moves back home, attempting to reconnect with
the people she left behind. But a shadow falls over her
return one early October morning when a sinister house
miraculously appears in the center of the city, sparking
a media frenzy that attracts attention nationwide. Soon
after the newspapers label it, "The House that Fell
from the Sky," Scarlett's childhood friend Hannah
becomes obsessed with the idea that the house holds the
key to discovering whether there really is life after
death. Undeterred by her friends' numerous warnings,
Hannah becomes increasingly consumed with the desire to
enter the house, convinced it would allow her to
reconnect with her recently deceased mother.

Have
Snakes, Need Birds: Klempan, Travis
Sergeant John Mackenzie is on his third deployment to
Iraq at the height of combat operations. His overriding
goal: get his soldiers home safely. That mission is
difficult enough when every day is a fight against
snipers, roadside bombs, or just plain old boredom-it
becomes impossible when John accidentally awakens two
ancient spirits, each bent on destroying the other,
collateral damage be damned. A soul-collecting demon
named Moonlit Samuel wants to move up in the hierarchy
of evil; a malevolent force of nature known only as
taliment destroys everything it touches; and John still
faces local insurgents, foreign fighters, a belligerent
battalion commander, a greenhorn lieutenant, and
questions of his own sanity.

Full
Throttle: Stories: Hill, Joe
A little door that opens to a world of fairy-tale
wonders becomes the blood-drenched stomping ground for a
gang of hunters in “Faun.” A grief-stricken
librarian climbs behind the wheel of an antique
Bookmobile to deliver fresh reads to the dead in “Late
Returns.”
In “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain” - now an
episode on Shudder TV’s Creepshow - two young friends
stumble on the corpse of a plesiosaur at the water’s
edge, a discovery that forces them to confront the
inescapable truth of their own mortality. And tension
shimmers in the sweltering heat of the Nevada desert as
a faceless trucker finds himself caught in a sinister
dance with a tribe of motorcycle outlaws in “Throttle,”
cowritten with Stephen King.
Replete with shocking chillers, including two previously
unpublished stories written expressly for this volume (“Mums”
and “Late Returns”) and another appearing in print
for the first time (“Dark Carousel”), Full Throttle
is a darkly imagined odyssey through the complexities of
the human psyche. Hypnotic and disquieting, it mines our
tormented secrets, hidden vulnerabilities, and basest
fears, and demonstrates this exceptional talent at his
very best.

The
Institute: King, Stephen
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street
in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke
Ellis’s parents and load him into a black SUV. The
operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up
at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his
own, except there’s no window. And outside his door
are other doors, behind which are other kids with
special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to
this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George,
Iris, and ten-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in
Front Half. Others, Luke learns, graduated to Back Half,
“like the roach motel,” Kalisha says. “You check
in, but you don’t check out.” In this most sinister
of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her
staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these
children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are
no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for
the vending machines. If you don’t, punishment is
brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke
becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help.

The
Furies: Lowe, Katie
She’s posed on a swing on her boarding school’s
property, dressed all in white, with no known cause of
death. Whispers and rumors swirl, with no answers. But
there are a few who know what happened; there is one
girl who will never forget.
One year earlier: a new student, Violet, steps on the
campus of Elm Hollow Academy, an all-girl’s boarding
school on the outskirts of a sleepy coastal town. This
is her fresh start, her chance to begin again in the
wake of tragedy, leave her demons behind. Bright but a
little strange, uncertain and desperate to fit in, she
soon finds herself invited to an advanced study group,
led by her alluring and mysterious art teacher, Annabel.
There, with three other girls - Alex, Grace, and Robin -
the five of them delve into the school’s long-buried
grim history: of Greek and Celtic legends; of the school
founder’s “academic” interest in the occult; of
gruesome 17th century witch trials. Annabel does her
best to convince the girls that her classes aren’t
related to ancient rites and rituals, and that they are
just history and mythology.
